Employment Checks

Just how bad is resume fraud?

There are various statistics (often dependent on geography and the time at which the surveys are taken) but the figures are simply frightening.

US research figures suggest resumes for employment candidates are misleading in that:

  • 71% misrepresent their experience
  • 64% exaggerate their achievements
  • 52% misrepresent the qualifications
  • 41% omit prior jobs

This means the poor old hiring manager like you can only make one assumption.  The information put in front of you will be at least 50% incorrect or slanted in an exaggerated manner.  The simple way to spot a fake is to check it meticulously.

It is not uncommon to see a company director claiming an economics degree from a University they have never been near.  It is certainly not uncommon to see someone claiming they had left on good terms with their previous employer, only to find that that employer has been trying to terminate them for a year or that he / she has stacks of ACC claims, a history of personal grievances or a raft of other baggage.

We all know it happens, yet remarkably few of us insist on a highly disciplined process of checking out every aspect of background and verifying the information put in front of you.  This is in spite of the difficult procedures that face us post employment and often lead to personal grievance hearings. The only way to spot a fake is to work through a disciplined process of verification.

And no one is immune.  Our experience in the verification business has shown that misrepresentation applies across the board from labourer to company director.  Nothing can be taken at face value.

Resumé Check gives you the tools to check.   Their Background Verification pre-employment screening ensures the talent you hire is what they say they are.    They use their experience and knowledge to look for the red flags, verify the facts, and provide the due diligence to mitigate your employment risk.

Resumé Check Reference Checking measures candidate’s capabilities against customised competencies in a position description.  As independent experts, they work alongside in-house recruitment or external recruiters to provide objective feedback on candidates to help manage the business risk of employing.

Resumé Check’s professional expertise provides impartially, without any interest in the final outcome.  Unless you possess these specialist capabilities in-house it is insurance you should not be without.
